1) Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden

While this one is not free, it’s well worth the cost for an engagement photography session. The Garden’s breathtaking backdrops can be a featured part of your long-lasting memories! From bridal portraits to family photos, the Garden’s spectacular settings can enhance any photographic opportunity.

2) Jetton Park

One of the most amazing parks in the Charlotte Area. This 104 acre lakefront park offers opportunities for the entire family. It includes picnic sites, lighted tennis courts, walking trails, gazebo, sunning beach (no swimming), playgrounds, restrooms, concession area and Waterfront Hall which may be reserved for special events. Your engagement photography will look amazing against the waterfront.

3) Midtown Park

This park is a small grassy patch located right off the Little Sugar Creek Greenway walk way. There are several sculptures, and a beautiful view of uptown Charlotte. Take some time out to relax in your engagement photography session in this quaint part of Midtown. The art in the park was created by artists duo Living Lenses.

4) NoDa Murals

NoDa is Charlotte’s historic arts and entertainment district. NoDa is home to all walks of life and an array of talented artists and musicians. Whether you into Craft beer, award-winning food, or tattoos you’ll find what you need in NoDa.  Above all, the residents of NoDa are dedicated to promoting the arts, living eco-friendly lifestyles, and small businesses. The NoDa Neighborhood and Business Association is focused on encouraging diversity and promoting culturally enriching events for the neighborhood. Find awesome engagement photography locations in front of the large wall murals painted throughout the town.

5) Romare Bearden Park

Romare Bearden Park is a recent addition to Uptown Charlotte’s landscape. Brick walkways encompass the park, as kids don their swimsuits and run through the cascading water. You can also enjoy a wide variety of live music, festivals and art shows throughout the year. 5 ½ acres of restful beauty make this an ideal space for you to shoot an engagement photography session, especially in the morning or afternoon.

6) Marshall Park

Marshall Park has grassy and shaded spaces, plus a small amphitheater that make the ideal spot for an engagement photography shoot. This Park is named for James B. Marshall who was City Manager 1935-1940.

7) Goat Island Park and Greenway

The Goat Island Greenway is .7 miles of paved surface trail, including two awesome and rustic pedestrian bridges that go over two sections of the South Fork Catawba River. Goat Island Park features an observation pier, two canoe/kayak landings, two picnic shelters, a natural tree house style playground, 18 hole disc golf course, walking trails, fitness pavilion and an open air amphitheater located in the Town Center. The park is perfect for wooded forest engagement photos or if you want an awesome bridge photo.

8) Anne Springs Close Greenway

Anne Springs Close Greenway is an extensive protected natural area in Fort Mill, South Carolina consisting of approximately 2,100 acres of lakes, forests, and pastures that include trails for hiking, biking, kayaking, and horseback riding. If you can’t find a unique area to take an engagement photo here, there is something wrong.

9) Wing Haven Gardens

Another pay to shoot location is Wing Haven Gardens. Enclosed-brick gardens & bird sanctuary features quaint, ambling pathways & landscaped greens. The perfect setting for a romantic beautiful spring engagement session.

10) McAdenville Christmas Town USA

McAdenville Christmas is a treasured tradition in the Charlotte area. McAdenville calls itself Christmas Town USA, and for good reason. If you are able to get your engagement session closer to Christmas you can get amazing photos with Christmas lights all around you. For the rest of the year, there are plenty of great spots in the town’s parks or even on the old town streets.

As you can see this list takes you from awesome pastures and gardens to city skylines. Some are paid but most free. While it’s not an extensive list of all the great places to shoot an engagement session in Charlotte; it will at least give you a great idea of where to start.
